Call for Papers

Kepler (kepler-project.org) is an open-source, cross-project collaboration to develop a scientific workflow system for multiple disciplines, providing a workflow environment for scientists, in which they can design and execute workflows. The Kepler Scientific Workflow System supports the design, execution, and management of scientific and engineering workflows through dedicated capabilities including provenance management, run management and reporting tools, integration of distributed computation and data management technologies, ability to ingest local and remote scripts, and sensor management and data streaming interfaces.

The Kepler software is developed and maintained by the cross-project Kepler collaboration, which is led by a team consisting of several of the key institutions that originated the project. This workshop aims to bring researchers and developers contributing to Kepler together with informaticians and computational scientists using Kepler in order to communicate recent advances in Kepler and facilitate new development and collaborations.

Topics

The topics of interest for submission include, but are not limited to:

  • State-of-the-Art Kepler Application Examples and Success Stories
  • Requirements from Existing and Potential Kepler Communities
  • Server-side Usage of Kepler in Virtual Laboratories and Other Cyberinfrastructure Environments including Portals
  • Best Practices for Using Kepler
  • Kepler in Educational Environments
  • New Developments and Modules in Kepler

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original, unpublished research and recent developments and theoretical considerations on the workshop topics by February 12th, 2012. The manuscripts can be prepared as research papers (up to 10 pages), demonstration or poster papers (4-6 pages) or vision papers (2-4 pages).

The submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of Procedia Computer Science. Please use this file for a Latex template plus instructions and click here for an MS word template file). Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper. PostScript and source versions of your paper must be submitted electronically through the paper submission system.

While submitting please select the workshop (last field) as “Advances in Kepler Scientific Workflow System and Its Applications” and send a note to the workshop organizers.

Participant Support

When submitting your abstract or paper, please also send email to the workshop organizers, indicating the following: 1. Title and category of paper(s) submitted: 2. Do you need participant support to cover (part of) your travel expenses? (e.g. economy airfare) (yes/no) 3. If your answer is Yes to (2), please provide a rough estimate and brief explanation of travel support requested:

The workshop organizers will prioritize travel support and inform prospective participants within a week after paper submission.
