It is with great sadness that ISTVS announces that Brigadier General (ret.) Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Guenter Hohl, EAEC President, FISITA Vice President, and ISTVS Fellow, passed away on 8 August 2024.
Guenter Hohl was founding member, long-standing board member, and honorary member of the Österreichischer Verein für Kraftfahrzeugtechnik (Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers). In this capacity he attended many events in Austria, Romania, presented lectures and received honours. He also was chairman of several, very well attended ISTVS conferences.
Brigadier Hohl studied mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology and, after working in industry, continued his career with the Austrian Armed Forces.
As the highest ranking official, he was responsible for all technical aspects of Army vehicles in Austria, especially light and heavy off-road vehicles. In his role as a board member from 1985 to 2021, he organized, among other things, numerous, very successful off-road symposia, presented countless lectures and was responsible as editor-in-chief for the ÖVK news. For many decades, he gave lectures on off-road vehicles at the Vienna University of Technology.
He also served as Secretary General for Europe and Africa of the International Society for Terrain Vehicle Systems (ISTVS) between 1994 and 2002. From 2000 to 2011 he was Vice President of FISITA and from 2005 to 2011 President of the EAEC. He has received numerous national and international awards for his services, including the professional title of Professor from the Federal President of Austria in 1997.
With General Hohl, we have lost not only a colleague but also a popular person and dear friend. Our deepest condolences go out especially to his family.
We miss him very much and honor his memory.
